Today I want to answer the question – what do gutters actually do and why is keeping them clean important?

Gutters really are the unsung heroes of the home. Many homeowners take them for granted!

Gutters play a very important role in diverting rainwater off of your roof and safely away from your foundation. Think about this – with only an inch of rainfall – an average roof displaces over a thousand gallons of water away into your gutters! If your gutters aren’t working properly – all that water can flood your foundation, and can rot out your rafters and your plywood underneath your shingles.

When your gutters overflow, water erodes away the soil around your foundation – this can lead to flooding in your basement & crawlspace, and the foundation can settle and crack. Simple foundation repair can cost upwards of $10,000!

Since all of the water in your gutters funnel down into a 2” hole – any debris can quickly and easily clog it. This is why regular maintenance on your gutters is so important!

Depending on how many trees you have around your home – we recommend cleaning your gutters at least 2x per year. If you have more trees around your home – quarterly cleaning is the best schedule to keep your gutters flowing smoothly!
