Having a metal roof has a lot of advantages; it’s durable and long-lasting, plus it’s not as susceptible to different elements compared to other roofing materials. The question is: is it easy to clean your roof? What considerations should you take when having a metal roof cleaned?

  1. It is very important to maintain a metal roof  – make sure you keep an eye on it, check to see that there’s no debris or things of that nature on it. It is a pretty daunting task to do yourself so you should get a professional to clean it.
  2. Be very, very careful on what type of products you use on metal roofs. Just using a power washer and water is probably the best way to clean it because many metal manufacturers void the warranty if you use any type of chemical on the roof. But if you do happen to use some chemicals, it’s important to know what type of chemical you’re using, how abrasive it is towards metal and of course, to keep an eye on it and to clean it very quickly.
  3. If you do have the option of potentially actually adding a recoating to the metal roof to keep it protected and up to snuff and fully functional, hire a professional. If you don’t use a professional, anything that goes wrong with the roof, or if you fall off the ladder or if any kind of damage happens to the roof, plants or anything nearby or yourself, that’s on your own homeowners’ insurance. But if you hire a professional, with insurance, you get the benefit of being able to sleep easy and know that all is being taken cared of.

Again, use a professional if you are going to clean your roof; use a power washer and water if you are going to do it on your own.
